41 Club National: Virtual AGM

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, IN ACCORDANCE WITH RULE 18.2, THAT THE SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION OF EX ROUND TABLERS’ CLUBS

will be held on Saturday 24th April 2021 at 10:00am by Video Conference

The following items of documentation are available on this site:

* The Order & Agenda Paper for the forthcoming AGM

* Minutes of the 74th Annual General Meeting – 6th April 2019

* Minutes of the Special General Meeting – 16th December 2020

* Information on the candidates standing for the positions of National Vice President and National Councillors’ Liaison Officer.

Please ensure that the person attending the AGM on your behalf has a downloaded copy of the Notice & Agenda . Please appoint a Voting Delegate, and discuss the resolutions and elections in the Order Paper with your members before they attend, so your Voting Delegate is qualified to vote correctly on your behalf. Copies of the Order Paper can be downloaded from our website in PDF format should you wish to e-mail a copy to your members whose details are not fully registered on CAS.

The meeting will take the form of a Zoom Webinar. All Club Contacts, Club Secretaries and Club Chairmen will receive information in due course on how to register their attendance, for voting delegates and those who wish to speak. The meeting will also be streamed on social media, for those who wish to view the proceedings.

Voting for the two contested positions will be by means of a managed election platform provided by Choice Voting. In due course, each Club Secretary (or other nominated contact) will receive an e-mail with an encrypted link in order to cast a vote. The voting will take place on the day of the AGM.

Finally, please check and update as required your Club and Member details on CAS and update them ‘on line’ as required.

Yours in Continued Friendship,

Bernard Elwen
National Secretary

41 Club Connects – added to Upcoming Events

Dear Scarborough 41 Club Member,

I hope this finds you well as we emerge from the depths of a locked-down winter.

41 Club Connects national events are now coming thick and fast, thanks to Don Mullane and the Connects team.

Rather than keep updating you with posts here which mostly repeat the same information, all 41 Club Connects and other 41 Club national events (online or actual) will now be posted to the Scarborough 41 Club Calendar/Diary, starting with tonight’s event.

So you can now see what’s in store for you on the home page of our website (right hand side column, as before) or in the Calendar.

In order to join a published Zoom meeting, please see the link in your personal email from National lurking in your inbox or go to 41 Club Connects.

Let’s hope we see some of our own Scarborough 41 Club events in the Diary before too long!

Yours as ever

David

41 Club Connects and other National updates

Some updates from 41 Club National:

41 Club Connects

A reminder about this week’s 41 Club Connects Zoom Meeting, and the weeks ahead… AND News about the 41 Club Big Weekend in October AND An Invitation from Ladies Circle for this Friday….

This week’s 41 Club Connects Zoom event is with Amanda Owen, the Yorkshire Shepherdess! Bestselling author, passionate photographer, newspaper columnist, public speaker, social media personality, tea-maker and mother of 9 – Amanda is a (very busy) woman of many talents, but first and foremost, Amanda is a shepherdess! We anticipate a huge turnout for this meeting so a reminder that if you can’t get on Zoom to watch it, you should be able to watch it live on the private 41 Club Members Forum on Facebook. It will be recorded for future viewing too.

As for all 41 Club Connects Zoom events it is open to all members of the Round Table Family and their guests, so if you have friends who you think would like to view this you are welcome to forward the details to them from the 41 Club Connects site.

You’ll find details of the forthcoming Zoom events there, also.

41 Club AGM and Big Weekend

Now you are hopefully aware that the National AGM is going to be virtual this year, but we want to look ahead to a shindig when we can hopefully all come together again, face-to-face – and that will be The 41 Club Big Weekend (Friday 1st October to Sunday 3rd October in Nottingham) President Peter is really excited about The 41 Club Big Weekend in October being put together by his PLC in compliance with all the Covid guidelines! Fingers crossed that this fabulous event can indeed take place! Here’s Peter’s PLC Chairman, Marcus Jones, to tell you about it:-

There is a light at the end of tunnel and with the support of our membership we can now start the process to reopen our plans for the year head which includes the belated celebration of the original 75th Year previously planned events along with a weekend that can only be described as “THE BIG 41 CLUB WEEKEND”.

We aim to bring together all aspects of the membership over this amazing weekend, fun, fellowship, entertainment, and the business side of things with an SGM, whilst ensuring it is an inclusive event for all.

We want to create an event that celebrates the amazing efforts by so many over the past 75 YEARS and in special recognition of the past year in dealing with Covid19 and the supportive work our members have shown in their communities.

The dates are set aside are Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd October 2021 at the amazing venue of DeVere Orchard Hotel & Conference Centre Nottingham and the booking site will open once we have the government updates.

It is intended to hold a Special General Meeting of 41 Club on the morning of Saturday 2nd October.

Everyone who had booked in to the original 75th celebrations scheduled for last July will receive information on the new event from the event team as soon as practicable.

Visit www.41Club75.org for the updated information and “The Big 41 Club Weekend Store” that supports Dementia UK, the Presidents Charity.

Further updates to follow.

Marcus

Ladies Circle

Finally, last but not least – an invitation to support Ladies Circle this Friday.

Michelle Chapman, National President of Ladies Circle, writes: We have a Magic Night scheduled for Friday night to raise funds for my charity partners for the year, Rape Crisis England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It should be a fabulous night.

To book your tickets and pay by card just click on https://py.pl/geedk – it’s £10 per household
(plus a small booking fee of 71p, sorry – to cover the fees Ladies Circle has to pay). Please note – bookings close at 5pm on Friday.

Michelle says: Here’s a link to a short video by the Magician, he is really funny and super super talented. https://youtu.be/S-zy8wv7nSU

If you can support Michelle and Ladies Circle in this, please do so.

Keep safe

The Launch of the 41 Club Buddies Web Page

I write about the Launch of the 41 Club Buddies Web Page on www.41ClubConnects.co.uk; and the opportunity to volunteer as a Buddy.

In December 2020, the 41 Club Buddyline was set up, and now has 18 volunteer ‘Buddies’ ready and willing to answer calls on a daily rota seven days a week, between 10am and 10pm. We are aware that just by having this service available, 41 Clubs across the Association have felt encouraged to have discussions within their clubs to ensure they are supporting any member who may be feeling lonely or down and would benefit from a chat.

We also know however that for some members feeling isolated, picking up the phone and asking for support is a huge step and not an easy thing to do. To assist with this we are pleased to launch the 41 Club Buddies Web Page where any Club or member can go and find out more information about the Buddyline service, as well as find contact details and descriptions of a range of other Support Organisations who will be able to help members with a variety of questions or concerns. The page can be found at https://41clubconnects.co.uk/41-club-buddyline/

We are also looking for additional Buddy volunteers to join our existing Buddies rota, to be available one day a week to answer the Buddyline. If you would like to be there for your fellow members, and can spare the time, please contact Peter McBride at region24@41club.org for more details.

Keep safe.

41 Club Connects tonight – and future events

A reminder that tonight’s 41 Club Connects Zoom Event is a Zoom Event that no one can seriously afford to miss! “So you think you can’t be Conned?” is a warning about avoiding some of the many cons and scams out there potentially targeting you!

It is presented in a thoroughly humorous way by Brad Ashton, a renowned comedian and script writer who presented over 100 episodes on avoiding cons on BBC radio. It should be a great evening as Brad is an excellent comic and an excellent speaker – you will really enjoy the evening AND it could save you money, possibly a fortune!

Please see 41clubconnects.co.uk.

I seriously recommend that you pass this on to your friends and relatives – it is open to all – because the Con men and scammers don’t care who they target. This will be a fun evening which could save you and yours money. As the picture asks, Can you seriously afford to miss this talk?

This is followed on Thursday 18th March by our St Patrick’s Day Special. Come and enjoy the blarney and craic with our Irish members from Dublin 41 Club, and elsewhere, as they bid you a Cead Mille Failte to a wonderful Irish themed evening on 41 Club Connects. There might even be the opportunity to drink some Guinness or some Whiskey! You are asked to wear something green, or to have an Irish background, or something black in a pint glass at least!

The Meeting the following week is the celebrity TV Yorkshire shepherdess – yes finally our Welsh Members get a look-in! (Only kidding – I’m an Aber Boy myself!)

FINALLY Whiskey, the recently launched 41 Club Whisky Appreciation Group are holding their first Whisky Tasting Session – a Scottish one (quelle surprise?) on Friday 26th March. If you want to attend you can find out more details on their Facebook page or email whisky@41ClubConnects.co.ukBUT the deadline for ordering the samples (5 x Malt whisky tasters for £15 delivered!) is this Friday – so get your skates on if you want to take part: You snooze you lose! Keep safe.

41 Club Connects Zoom Events and a note to Club Officers

Dear Member,

This email is being sent to all members whose email address is in the Club Administration System and have requested E-Mail Contact.

On Thursday, 11 February at an earlier start time of 7pm, there is a Charity Chinese Cook-Along in aid of Leukaemia Care (www.leukaemiacare.org.uk). This is hosted by the renowned Lu Ban Chinese Restaurant in Liverpool. I stress that this is a public event with supporters of the charity – it is not limited to members of 41 Club or The Round Table Family. Importantly, please note that due to technical reasons the Zoom link for this event has been amended to https://zoom.us/j/94271734769

In case of any problem logging on, go to www.41clubconnects.co.uk and use the link shown there.

On Thursday, 18 February we are back to our normal 7:30pm start time for a Virtual Tour of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

This should appeal to everyone not just the railway enthusiasts amongst you.

On Thursday, 25 February, at 7:30pm, we have an Evening of Rugby with Wayne Barnes Wayne (born 20 April 1979 (so, yes, he is 41 years old)) is an English international rugby union referee. He is a regular referee in the English Premiership, and has refereed games in the Heineken Cup, the European Challenge Cup, at the Rugby World Cup, the Six Nations and the Pacific Nations Cup. When not on the pitch or working with the England team, Wayne is a practising barrister at Fulcrum Chambers in London.

This should be another cracking evening for rugby fans and non-fans alike.

Finally, on a different theme, for Club Officers, as we are approaching club AGM season. If you are updating/changing your club officers in CAS2 (the Club Administration System) please note the following:

Please use the Officers tab to change officers. Just use the click down menu to select the member who will occupy the role if it is changing. Please do not overwrite the personal details of existing officers in the members section with those of their successor in a post (this buggers up the system!).

Please note that only existing Officers can edit the system, so if you are editing your own position please ensure you do this last, as it will be the last edit you can make.

Thank you.
Keep safe everyone.

41 Club National: January 2021 Newsletter

This was also sent by email to all members with email addresses in CAS2 who are listed as happy to receive emails. If you haven’t had your copy and you would like to have emailed copies, please contact our Club Secretary, Mike.

Dear Member,

Please find attached a copy of the January Newsletter.

As mentioned therein, we would like to have the month and year of birth of all members listed in CAS2, as it would give us a better profile of our membership, so if you are agreeable to this please inform your Club Contact so that they might update your club’s CAS2 entry with this information.

I hope those of you who have opted to receive hard copies of the 41 Club Magazine have received your copy which was accompanied by a Members’ Handbook? If you haven’t received it due to the vagaries of the post (and I myself am in this category!) you can access the Winter Magazine in flip book format at https://41clubconnects.co.uk/winter-magazine

And you can access a pdf of the Members’ Handbook at https://www.41club.org/files/2020-12-53/2020-Members-Handbook1609179991.pdf

If you like the flip book format of the 41 Club Magazine on-line and would be happy to receive it in this electronic format only going forwards, rather than a hard copy, please let me know and I will stop your paper copy. This will not only save the Association printing and postage costs but is helpful to the environment too. You can easily restart the paper copies at a later date by informing me and I shall reactivate for you to receive copies by post. This has the potential to save the Association money which could then be spent on membership initiatives and other projects as you are aware that postal costs are continuously increasing more than the rate of inflation. To be absolutely clear, we recognise the value of a printed magazine for many of our membership and intend to continue with this – this initiative is aimed at being cost-effective and environmentally friendly for our membership as a whole.

Keep safe
