41 Club President’s Message to All Members, January 2021

Dear Member

As the evenings draw in, I am delighted to give you more details of our January 41 Club Connects Programme. The Team have put together a range of events which should appeal to all – starting with a fantastic speaker this week, followed by other special events to provide some fun and sparkle.

7th January 2021 at 7:30pm – Richard McCann
Richard has delivered over 2500 presentations around the world, inspiring audiences with his story of overcoming adversity, and sharing his powerful iCan approach. In 2009 he founded the iCanSpeak Academy, training individuals and teams to enhance their presentation skills and communicate their message authentically and with con?dence so they achieve more effective results. On a cold and misty morning in October 1975, Richard woke to discover his mother was missing. He was just ?ve years old. She was the ?rst victim of the notorious serial killer, Peter Sutcliffe.
Despite other tragic losses, and a period of dabbling with drugs and prison, Richard decided to turn his life around. He grew to become a motivational speaker and loving family man, with a ?lm of his life in development.  Join us for an interesting and inspiring start to 2021 with 41 Club Connects https://41clubconnects.co.uk
14th January 2021 at 7:30pm – Virtual Tour of Hangar 42 Spitfire Museum
The Museum has three replica Spitfires and a Hawker Hurricane, all currently being restored with original parts to a high standard. We will be hearing about the exhibits and wartime history of the Fylde Coast and the locally recovered exhibits of WW2 aircraft crash wrecks, including a complete P51 Mustang Merlin Engine. About Hangar 42
Hangar 42 was constructed in 1939 for the RAF.
Polish & RAF Squadrons flew Night Fighter operations from Hangar 42.
Hurricanes, Boulton Paul Defiants & Spitfires were amongst a range of Aircraft operated from Hangar 42. Famous Aviation Pioneer Amy Johnson also flew her last fateful mission from Blackpool in 1941 as an ATA Pilot.
The building has been refurbished and restored to its WW2 operational state. The Lytham St Annes Spitfire Ground Display Team was established in 2009 to help raise funds for the RAF Memorial now located on Fairhaven Lake in Lytham St Annes.  More details here:

 26th January 2020 at 7:30pm – Burns Night Supper
The 41 Club Connects Team have pulled together an evening of tremendous fellowship at the inaugural National 41 Club Virtual Burns Night Supper. This wonderful evening of fellowship will involve all the usual traditions and ceremony of the evening, supported by some (surely all?) of our Scottish members.  Hear piping, recitals and more as we relive the life and times of Rabbie Burns.

You can cater for yourselves OR like Lesley and me, you can take advantage of a special deal to order a traditional Burns Supper to be delivered to you. The special 41 Club delivery menu will include Cullen Skink, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, a fine dessert and a single malt whisky for you and a partner to enjoy.  These meals will be prepared and delivered directly to your doors to simply warm up on the evening.  The meal including the whisky will be sold and delivered as meals for two at £48 (£24 per head – although because of the high costs of transportation, we regret that there will have to be a delivery surcharge for anyone ordering a single meal (sorry)). A special portal for ordering will be shared in the coming days.  More details here:

National President’s New Year Message for 2021

From the National President, 41 Club, Peter Good

Hello All,

Whilst the pandemic had been a terrible time for everyone, I wanted in this short message to reflect on some of the positives that have come out of 2020, as you are all too familiar with the negatives.

My very first message of 2020 was focused on 41 Club getting out into the community more, to raise our profile and to encourage ex-Tablers to join us.

I am pleased to say that during the pandemic the majority of clubs have done this by getting involved in volunteer groups to help the community in different ways.

We have all had to engage and learn to use the digital world, which has given us a great way to keep in touch and also have fun doing it.

The majority of clubs have held their AGMs online, and are meeting more online than they would have face to face, especially during the winter months. This is ideal for the older members.

As President, I haven’t met the National Board face-to-face yet, but I feel we have got to know and support each other in many new ways – far more than would have been the case meeting face-to-face four times a year. We are in touch much more often, and I have a great team working hard to keep the Association going in these difficult unprecedented circumstances, for that I say a sincere thank you to these guys.

We have the 41 Club Connects events with some fantastic speakers, which is something I think we should keep going on a monthly basis when we are back to anything like normal. During January 2021 we have three events lined up for you, because we did have a feeling that this was going to be a strange month:

  • On Thursday 7th January we have an evening with Richard McCann, renowned international author and speaker, whose late-mother was a victim of The Yorkshire Ripper.
  • On Thursday 14th January we have a virtual tour of the Hanger 42 Spitfire Museum and Display Team, at Blackpool Airport.
  • On Tuesday 26th January (a day late so it doesn’t clash with anyone’s existing plans) we have a Burns Night Celebration.

Full details of these events will come out in the next few days.
I feel that the coming months, no matter what Tier you are going to be in, will be challenging for us all.

We have members living alone, and members that just need a chat with someone to discuss the challenges around them, with that in mind we have launched the 41 Club Buddies – someone at the end of a telephone to chat to from 10am until 10pm 7-days a week. I believe this is a member support that will be needed as we come out of this year into the light of 2021. The number is 03301 07 07 40.

Just yesterday, when out on my walk, my view on how this year has affecting people in different ways was really brought home to me. As I was walking through a village, 2 miles away, a car pulled over; it was a friend just wanting to give me New Year greetings. Unfortunately, he also said “sad news about Will”, a mutual friend, and a very successful property developer, who retired when he was 40 and was now 56, living alone in a big isolated farm house. He had taken his life on Christmas Eve. He had waved to me that morning, as we travelled through town. Little did I know he was waving goodbye.

I do not want any member to feel alone and that is why 41 Club Buddies is there for you.

A positive note that came about in 2020 is that people have got to know their neighbours. One of our members said that he had lived in his house for 20 years and had never met his neighbours until this year. There is a lot more kindness about again.

So, it’s not all bad! We have had good things come out of 2020 and these we should take on board and keep with us.

Myself and Lesley would like to wish you all a very “Safe New Year” with the hope that the vaccines will eventually enable us to meet some of you face to face in a happier healthier world.

Yours in Continued Friendship

Peter

A Special Message from National President Peter Good about an Event at 4pm on Christmas Day

Good Evening Everyone,

The terrible news this afternoon surrounding the changes to even tighter Covid19 restrictions would have been difficult news for many of our members.

This updated position could mean some members may be alone for Christmas Day. I am absolutely committed to support our members in any way possible during these times and most important,

I would like to try and add a little Christmas cheer where possible. On that note at 4pm Christmas Day I intend to have a Christmas Zoom call for anyone who wants to have a little bit of festive fellowship.

Links to the event will be published on www.41ClubConnects.co.uk and on the 41 Club Members Forum on Facebook. No one should be alone this Christmas due to the increase on Covid-19, so I have arranged a little open zoom call to brighten our day, it might not be face to face, I will tell terrible jokes and might be a little tipsy but I am sure we can still support each other.

Yours in Christmas Fellowship!
Peter

41 Club National Connects Programme

Dear Member,

The National President has sent out an email about the above programme over the Christmas period and into the new year.

I am afraid it is impossible to copy and paste it all here for technical reasons (awkward table structure within the email).

If you haven’t received it, please contact Mike S on how to register for 41 Club National emails.

Or you can visit here for most of the details: https://41clubconnects.co.uk.

Sadly, there is no free beer or gin for these tastings.

They do have a limit of 300 guests on the Zoom calls, and if you can’t join that, they will be streaming live on Facebook, so they will welcome any more listeners on there.

41 Club National November 2020 Newsletter

Dear Member,
Date: 17/11/2020
Please find attached the 41 Club Newsletter for November.

Ashby 41 Club features heavily because they send in articles – if you want your club to feature too, please meet me half way and send in some stories.

41 International are looking to find the oldest 41-ers in the world. National doesn’t keep records of members’ dates of birth so I need you to tell me if you have any centenarian members in your club (aside from Jimmy Gordon, of Ringwood & District 41 Club, and Michael Prince, of Bournemouth 41 Club, who both featured in our July Newsletter for passing this milestone!).

Also, members have been asking where they can order 41 Club Gin? You can find it on-line at https://www.45ginschool.com/shop/p/41-club and there’s an article in the Newsletter about it.

Club Contacts please note that this is being sent to all members by email.

Any members whose preferred method of contact is not ’email’ or do not have a valid email address registered in CAS will not receive this, so we leave it to you to inform them. It will also be downloadable from the 41 Club national website.
