Cancellation of 2020 National Conference and AGM

It is with sadness that we have today announced the cancellation of the Cardiff Conference and AGMs, which was necessitated by Covid-19 in the interests of everyone’s safety.

The reason for our delay in announcing this was purely been down to the contractual position with all venues and the close proximity of the event. This could have resulted in a potential loss in excess of £80k on the functions and some guests having to pay cancellation fees/not receiving refunds on rooms booked at either conference hotel.

The Cardiff Conference Team, specifically our National Fellowship Officer Steve James, and Conference Chair Duncan Kennedy, have successfully negotiated a resolution which avoids major losses to either the Associations or the Attendees.

We acknowledge how disappointed the Cardiff Conference Team must be that all their hard work has been thwarted and take this opportunity to thank them for all that work.

We are resolving the situation regarding our AGM, the transfer of roles, and the election of officers before the end of May. We are in un-chartered territory here so bear with us – we are working on it and will notify you further in due course.

At an individual club level you will be facing similar issues. Do not worry about deferring meetings including AGMs – just comply with the government instructions regarding social isolation and keep safe above all.

41 Club Regional Announcement: Coronavirus

Good Day, All,

During these very difficult and uncertain times where worry and doubt seems all around us, National Council cannot provide you any advice other than that issued by the government and NHS.

However I feel that I should reach out to you at this time to offer moral support and guidance on meetings, events and AGMs, which are fast approaching. Hopefully this message will address some of the concerns you may have and some of you have been expressing to me over the last few days.

You know your club’s age demographic and vulnerability to this virus better than anyone and will be in a better position to act accordingly. You can postpone your meetings, events and AGM until a later date, you can submit reports by email and exchange jewels at a later date, or even continue as you are for another year. There are no National level rules around this (you may have local rules, no-one could envisage a situation like this and have pre-prepared for it).

At this point the National Conference in Cardiff is still going ahead and 41 Club is monitoring all government guidelines daily.

Your health and wellbeing is paramount. I want you all to take care and keep well.  Stay safe.

41 Club Region 6 Quiz

Hello fellow members of  41 Clubs,

Please see the following information regarding the Area Quiz:

Last year Horsforth 41 Club had the misfortune to win the Area Quiz hosted by Halifax, which apparently obliges them to organise this year’s version!  We are therefore delighted to invite you to enter one or more teams of four at Rawdon Golf Club at 7:30 on Wednesday 4 March.  A buffet will be provided, at a very reasonable £14 per head, and the well-stocked bar offers real ales.  If you would like to enter a team could you respond, please, by Friday 21  February to Glenn Mossman (email address redacted – please contact Mike Shingler for it).

We are already aware that Ilkley, Wetherby Wharfedale and Shipley intend to enter, so just final confirmation of numbers from those, please, gentlemen.  We can accommodate approximately ten visiting teams, so places will be on a first come first served basis.

The historic and valuable Area Quiz Trophy will be awarded to the winning team!

Rawdon Golf Club is located at

Buckstone Drive (off Micklefield Lane)
Rawdon
Leeds
LS19 6BB
West Yorkshire

Buckstone Drive is a short, narrow, unmade driveway with a sharp turn in from the B6152 Micklefield Lane, a short distance from the Rawdon traffic lights on the A65.  The golf club car park is at the end of the driveway.  Beware the vicious speed bumps!

There’s a useful map here: https://www.rgltc.com/location
